Tottenham agree deal with Manchester City for Emmanuel Adebayor

Tottenham have agreed a deal with Manchester City over the permanent transfer of Emmanuel Adebayor, according to reports today.

The Togo striker spent last season on loan at White Hart Lane, where he scored 17 Premier League goals.

After such a successful spell, Tottenham were always going to want to sign the 28-year-old on a permanent basis. Manager Andre Villas-Boas said yesterday: "We are extremely willing to have Adebayor on board with us."

Meanwhile, with an array of attacking talent at their disposal, Manchester City were understood to be happy to allow the former Arsenal player to leave, although only at the right price as they look to claw back some of the £25m they paid the Gunners.

According to various reports, it would now appear that the two clubs have been able to come to an agreement on a fee.

Tottenham must now discuss personal terms with the striker, a process that may prove difficult. Adebayor's wages at City are understood to be well above the limits of Tottenham's pay structure.

Should the deal be completed, it would make Adebayor the third signing since the arrival of Andre Villas-Boas as manager. Gylfi Sigurdsson has arrived from Hoffenheim and Jan Vertonghen, the Belgium international, from Ajax.
