HEADING FOR THE EXIT…

Roma will make one last-ditch attempt lure Vlad Chiriches away from Tottenham, but will need to meet the £7m valuation that the club have put on the Romanian defender.

Spurs signed the 25-year-old in 2013 for the same fee when they agreed a deal with Steaua Bucharest, but he has failed to break into the first team under Mauricio Pochettino this season with Jan Vertonghen and Federico Fazio emerging as the Argentinian’s preferred choice in the centre of his defence.

The Evening Standard reports that Chiriches is keen on a move to Roma and the terms are not a problem, but Spurs harbour concerns that selling him at this point of the season would leave them sufficient time to find an able replacement.

HEADING FOR THE ENTRANCE…

As part of the Chiriches deal, Roma may offer striker Mattia Destro, who has interested Spurs in the past. The same Evening Standard report suggests that the Italian club are keen to offload the Italian forward, but the player would prefer to remain in Italy and is said to be keen on joining AC Milan.

However, Spurs could face opposition from fierce rivals Arsenal as well as AC Milan should they move for Destro, with the Metro reporting that the Gunners are considering following up their long-term interest with a formal bid this month.

Elsewhere, ESPN claims Spurs are considering a move for Netherlands international Memphis Depay, although Manchester United are also in the hunt with Louis van Gaal eager to be reunited with the player he managed at the World Cup.

Depay interested Spurs in the summer, but remained with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven when the interest failed to materialise into a transfer. However, it’s now believed that Spurs could bid up to £15m to try and tempt PSV into parting ways with the winger.
