The future of Loic Remy still remains in the balance with reports claiming that Tottenham are still in the hunt for the Queens Park Rangers striker, although the prospect of him remaining at Loftus Road is not looking as farfetched as it did a handful of weeks ago.

Remy appeared close to a move to Liverpool after they activated his £8.5m release clause, but the Reds pulled the plug on the deal after he failed a medical during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

QPR manager Harry Redknapp has made it clear that he wants Remy’s future sorted sooner rather than later, and there are reports that he could look to take on two current Spurs players in exchange for Remy rather than the £8.5m he is expected to generate.

Redknapp is believed to be interested in England international Andros Townsend, who spent time on loan with Rangers in 2013 before breaking into the Spurs first team. The former Spurs manager also wants to take striker Harry Kane on at Loftus Road, and could wave the release fee for Remy should he be allowed to talk to both players as QPR look to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

With Remy looking to move on as he holds aspirations of playing in the Champions League, Redknapp has seen the chance to sell the Frenchman as another opportunity to trim Rangers’ wage bill, although a number of clubs interested in Remy’s services appear to have pulled out of the running.

New Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has made a fairly modest start to his first transfer window with the club, having made three signings of note in the form of former Swansea pair Ben Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson and young centre-back Erik Dier from Sporting Lisbon. Pochettino has been encouraged to reduce the size of the squad at White Hart Lane following their seven major signings last summer, and offloading two squad players in return of Remy could interest the Argentinian manager.
