Galatasaray manager Roberto Mancini is looking into the possibility of signing Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia after the Ecuadorian has fallen down the pecking order under David Moyes.

The Italian took over the Turkish club after he was sacked as Manchester City manager in May this year, having finished runner-up to their bitter rivals United in the Premier League and suffering a shock 1-0 defeat to Wigan in the FA Cup final.

He took over from Fatih Terim and has immediately identified targets who can improve a squad containing the likes of Didier Drogba, Wesley Sneijder and Burak Yilmaz, with one of those being right winger Valencia.

Turkish newspaper Fanatik is reporting that he could be given the opportunity of a fresh start with Galatasaray having been at Old Trafford since he joined from Wigan in 2009. They suggest that Mancini is willing to offer £12.5m for Valencia, although they are not the only side interested in his services.

Moyes’ former club Everton are keen on bringing the 28-year-old to Goodison Park as part of any deal for England left-back Leighton Baines, who United have shown keen interest in throughout the summer in which they had a number of bids rejected by the Merseyside club.

Toffees coach Alan Stubbs even admitted that Baines had asked to join the Premier League champions, but was told under no uncertain terms that he would not be sold after the club had agreed to sell central midfielder Marouane Fellaini to United for £27.5m.

United have looked a little short in the centre of the park, but they have an abundance of wingers to choose from leading to Valencia’s demotion in the pecking order. Moyes currently has Nani, Ashley Young, Wilfried Zaha and Valencia to choose from, while Shinji Kagawa and Ryan Giggs can also feature out wide when needed. However, it is the sudden emergence of 18-year-old Adnan Januzaj that poses the biggest threat to those in the first team.
