Wolves have signed the Belgium international Leander Dendoncker on an initial season-long loan from Anderlecht, in a move which will become a permanent transfer next summer.

The 23-year-old, who plays as a defensive midfielder and can also operate in defence, has experience in the Champions League and was a key part of Anderlecht’s First Division title success in 2016-17. He also played against England during the 2018 World Cup.

“It’s a dream for every player to play in the Premier League,” he said. “I hope I can help the team as fast as possible. This is the biggest league in the world so it’s very nice to play every week in here. They told me if I come here I will become a better player so we’ll see, I’m very excited to start.

“I followed Wolves a bit last year and I saw they did really good, winning a lot of games, playing good football. I think it’s an ambitious club so I am ready to give everything.”

Dendoncker is Wolves’ sixth signing of the summer, joining Adama Traore, Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho, Jonny Castro Otto and Raul Jiminez in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.

However the club have missed out on Manchester City's 21-year-old winger Oleksandr Zinchenko, with the player deciding against a move despite the two clubs agreeing a fee believed to be around £16m.

The club also announced the signing of the Congolese defender John Kitolano from Norwegian side Odds Ballklubb on a three-year deal, with the 18-year-old set to join the academy.

Wolves first Premier League campaign since 2012 begins on Saturday at Molineux against Everton.
