The Swede, a free agent since leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, is believed to have agreed terms with United prior to Euro 2016. However, talks between United and Ibrahimovic’s agent, Mino Raiola, took longer than expected, which delayed the move until after the tournament.
The medical is expected to be a formality, with Ibrahimovic, who retired from international football following Sweden’s group stage exit from Euro 2016, reported to be in good condition.
Should the move go through, it will be the second time Ibrahimovic has worked with Jose Mourinho. The two spent a title-winning year together at Internazionale, where Ibrahimovic ended the season as the league’s top scorer and won Serie A's Footballer of the Year award.
The news follows reports that United have agreed a £26.3m deal with Borussia Dortmund for their Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
