On Thursday, Liverpool closed in on a suitable replacement for Luis Suarez with reports suggesting they had signed Mario Balotelli for £17m from AC Milan.

In Europe, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti cleared up some of the questions surrounding the future of Angel di Maria and Sami Khedira.

Ancelotti confirmed that di Maria had rejected a contract extension and wanted to leave the club, with Manchester United keen to sign the Argentinian. Meanwhile, Ancelotti said that Khedira had no plans to sign a contract extension when his current deal came to an end next year.

Arsenal could lose a World Cup winner with Lukas Podolski attracting the interest of Galatasaray.

Finally, Roma have asked Chelsea about the availability of out-of-favour striker Fernando Torres. Torres joined Chelsea from Liverpool in 2011 for £50m but he has struggled at Stamford Bridge and failed to find his best form.
