2018 Russia World Cup in numbers

Peru have not qualified to the World Cup in 32 years, but finally booked a spot for Russia after a 2-0 victory over New Zealand in the second leg of their play-off.

However, their preparation has been badly disrupted by captain Paolo Guerrero's failed drugs test, and while he is available for their World Cup opener against Denmark, his availability has not gone without its controversy.

The Danes will clearly hope to take advantage of this, with Age Hareide's squad looking to make a comeback after their failed attempt to propel themselves out of their group back in 2010.

Kep player Christian Eriksen is also in good form after scoring a hat-trick against the Republic of Ireland in the play-offs.

62 mins: A lift to Peruvian players and fans alike as popular captain Paolo Guerrero comes off the bench to replace Edison Flores. The forward had looked set to miss the World Cup weeks ago after failing a drugs test.

69 mins: Peru go agonisingly close to equalising. A thumping header back across goal from Rodriguez following a free-kick on the left is inches away from both finding the far corner and the arriving Farfan at the back post. It is not happening for Los Incas.

74 mins: A clash of heads inside the penalty area has Tapia and Kjaer receiving treatment for the medics. After a short pause, both players are fit to continue for the final stages of the contest.

79 mins: Peru go close again! Electric pace down the right from Carillo stretches Denmark, his cross eventually finding Cueva in the area. The forward tries to make amends for his penalty miss by working his way to goal, and then the ball is taken off his toes it falls for Guerrero. In a flash of inspiration, the substitute unleashes a cute back-heel that rolls inches wide of Schmeichel's left post.

82 mins: A vital block from Advincula, sliding across in front of his goalkeeper, keeps out Nicolai Jorgensen's effort after Cueva had lost possession. It nearly got a whole lot worse for the Peruvian number eight.

84 mins: Great save again by Schmeichel! Carrillo's pace is tearing Denmark to pieces at the back, and the former Watford loanee does brilliantly to beat the full-back to tee up Farfan. The Peru holds his burst into the box to give himself space to strike, but his shot is straight at the Denmark goalkeeper, who is alert enough to instinctively block.

It's Farfan's last involvement as he goes off to make away for Raúl Ruidíaz.

86 mins: A yellow card for Delaney, who breaks up the Peruvian pressure by bringing down Carrillo.

90 mins: Into the final moment, do Peru have one last push in them?

The board goes up for five minutes injury time as Cueva side-foots a volley pass an array of white shirts in the Denmark box.
