El Mousaoui vs Witter, Friday night 8.00pm, Eurosport

Despite being a former World, European, British, and Commonwealth champion, Junior Witter has always struggled to build a fanbase in the world of boxing, but at 41-years-old is he on the verge of an Indian Summer?

43-7-2 across a 52 fight career, Witter fights for the EBU-EU welterweight title on Friday night against 21-1-1 Ahmed El Mousaoui who will enjoy home advantage in France.

Witter is on a two fight winning streak, but you have to go back almost three years to find his last meaningful victory when he defeated Colin Lynes in May 2012.

Despite the age and inactivity of Witter, he will be the best opponent that El Mousaoui has ever faced, and the French fighter has only stopped five opponents in his career.

This fight could come down to just how much power Witter has left in those veteran hands, as he has gone past 10 rounds only once since May 2008.

Expect El Mousaoui to vanquish the Brit on points, but if you really think Witter will roll back the years it is likely to be via stoppage.

Mathews vs Luis, Saturday night 7.00pm, BoxNation

The first of three BoxNation cards on Saturday night is headlined by Liverpool’s Derry Mathews who competes for the interim WBO lightweight title against Tony Luis.

Mathews has had an incredibly frustrating few weeks as first Richar Abril pulled out of the contest, and then replacement Ismael Barroso failed to obtain a visa.

This is the 49th fight of an up and down career for Mathews who has won British and Commonwealth titles in the past, but has also lost nine bouts, seven times via stoppage.

19-2 Luis is not a power puncher, but the Canadian has beaten two undefeated fighters over the past year and has the speed to make this a tough night for Derry.

The Liverpudlian is the favourite however, and rightly so considering that this opportunity for Luis has come at the last minute.

Mathews has 20 knockouts on his record, and with Luis having been finished in January 2013 and dropped a year later, the smart money could be on Mathews to win via stoppage.

Elsewhere in Liverpool, British light middleweight champion Liam Smith seeks his 20th career win when he meets 11-5 Argentine David Ezequiel Romero, while there are also outings for Iain Butcher, Joe Selkirk and Josh Leather.

Matthysse vs Provodnikov, Saturday night 2.00am, BoxNation

One of the most anticipated fights of the year takes place from New York as Russia’s 24-3 Ruslan Provodnikov faces Argentina’s 36-3 Lucas Martin Matthysse.

Even amidst the hype of Mayweather/Pacquiao, boxing fans have been salivating over this contest since it was announced, due to the offensive abilities of both fighters.

Provodnikov became known when he took Timothy Bradley all the way to a 12 round war during their March 2013 meeting, and then destroyed Mike Alvarado later that year.

The Russian mauler lost his WBO title to Chris Algieri nine months ago, but his fanbase has not dimmed, and he comes into this fight having stopped six of his last seven victims.

It is not often Provodnikov fights a man even more powerful than him, but Matthysse certainly is that, with the South American superstar having stopped or dropped all but one of his opponents throughout his career.

The bookmakers can barely split the two, with Matthysse a narrow favourite at 9/10 and Provodnikov available at 11/10.

Considering the power and aggression of the fighters, betting on both of them to be knocked down in the fight could produce some rewarding results.

Crawford vs Dulorme, Saturday night 2.00am, BoxNation

An incredible 2014 for Terence Crawford saw him begin the year by defeating Ricky Burns for the WBO lightweight title, defend the belt twice against Yuriorkis Gamboa and Raymundo Beltran, and end it by being named the Fighter of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America.

Undefeated across 25 professional fights, Crawford has now moved up to light welterweight, and meets 22-1 Thomas Dulorme for the vacant WBO world title.

Puerto Rico’s Dulorme has lost just once in his career to Luis Carlos Abregu in October 2012, but has never caught the eye of boxing fans as a potential star.

Beating Crawford would change that, but is very unlikely as the American is just better in every department.

The loss to Abregu came in the seventh round after his corner threw in the towel, and he will have to be wary of Crawford’s power which saw him drop the usually durable Yuriorkis Gamboa four times in their fight.

Crawford is an overwhelming betting favourite at 1/9 with Dulorme a huge underdog at 7/1.

Minor value can be found on Crawford winning via points at 8/11 if you believe his power won’t carry at the higher weight.
