UFC Fight Night: Cris 'Cyborg' Justino finishes Lina Lansberg inside two rounds as she dominates in Brasilia

On Saturday night, Cris Justino ‘Cyborg’ capped a crazy week with a scintillating win in front of her home crowd against Lina Lansberg.

All the talk prior to the fight was whether Cyborg would make the 140-pound weight limit. After clocking in within the 1-pound of leeway at 141-pounds on Friday morning, all that was left to be seen on Saturday was whether the brutal weight cut had taken a toll on her body.

Based on the evidence we saw last night, it obviously didn’t affect her too badly as Cyborg managed to put the difficult week behind her and show her best inside the UFC Octagon. The win came inside two rounds and she dominated the fight from start to finish with her crisp, fluent striking and formidable grappling strength.

The end came after two minutes and twenty-nine seconds of the second round when Cyborg dropped Lansberg with a big right hand. With the Swede helpless on the mat and simply covering her face from further damage, Cyborg poured on the ground and pound. After landing three crisp strikes, the referee stepped in to force the stoppage.

It was a vintage Cyborg performance and speaking to Jon Anik on the microphone afterwards she said: “I already have two belts at home, I just want to put on super fights and make my fans happy."

Barao back in business

In the co-main event of the evening, Renan Barao defeated Phillipe Nover via a unanimous decision in a fight that was really nothing to write home about. The Brazilian established his dominance early and pushed the pace putting Nover on the back foot for the entire fight. A finish never looked likely but three rounds inside the Octagon will have no doubt helped boost the former UFC bantamweight champion’s dwindling confidence.

Nelson KOs Silva but lashes out at McCarthy

Earlier in the night, Roy Nelson defeated Antonio Silva when he scored a big uppercut knockout in the second round. There was controversy after the fight when Nelson appeared to lash out at referee John McCarthy by kicking him in the backside as he attended to the fallen Brazilian lying on the mat. Nelson said after he felt it was a late stoppage. This follows remarks made earlier on in the week when he signified his dissatisfaction with McCarthy’s refereeing of the late fight.

Felder suffers gruesome cut

Prior to that, Paul Felder vs Francisco Trinaldo had to be stopped in the third round after Felder suffered a gruesome cut to his right eye. The cut was first opened when Trinaldo caught Felder in the second round with a stinging left hook. Felder’s problems got a whole lot worse in round three when Trinaldo caught him again and doubled the size of the cut.

With blood streaming down Felder’s face and impairing his vision, the referee called the doctor in the Octagon and stopped the fight within seconds. It was an unfortunate early end to the fight, but it was the only decision that could’ve been made given the situation.
