Cycling: Horner leads into final stage
Joaquin Rodriguez of Spain broke away in the final kilometre to win the penultimate stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico race yesterday. The 40-year-old American Chris Horner held on to his overall lead.
Rodriguez timed 4 hours 38.27mins over the 181km (112.5 mile) stage, starting and ending in Offida. The 2010 Vuelta champion, Vincenzo Nibali of Italy, was second and 2007 Giro d'Italia winner Danilo Di Luca third, both with the same time as Rodriguez. The world champion, Mark Cavendish, withdrew midway through the stage.
