Brits latest line of family stars

Take a dive into the sporting history books and a handful of families pop up as having excelled in their respective fields.

The Whitakers are extraordinary, boasting a long list of elite showjumpers in their lineage, and the Charltons are probably the best-known siblings to have graced a football field.

Now there are two names in triathlon continually catching the attention of onlookers. For the Brownlees stole the headlines in Hyde Park yesterday, with Alistair and his brother Jonathan meeting the London 2012 criteria by finishing first and third respectively. Watch out, London, these two Brits could be swimming, cycling and then running their way to Olympic glory next year.

The Bad

Blue Roon Rising

If you are going to make a clerical error on your website, it probably shouldn't be the mixing up of your own team and that of your bitterest rivals. But the blue side of Manchester was left red-faced as City's official site listed their team as having a red kit, with United in sky blue yesterday.

To make matters worse, upon coming on as a substitute, Gareth Barry was listed as playing as a striker, which presumably led to City's second-half collapse. Normally this online negligence might be forgiven but the nature of the mistake is just laughable.

The faux pas probably makes Arsenal fans realise that they should be grateful that Cesc Fabregas was only draped in a Barcelona kit, rather than a Tottenham one.

The Odd

Extra-factor in smith marriage

He's South Africa's Test captain andnow he's a newlywed, but the events leading up to Graeme Smith's marriage to singer Morgan Deane on Saturday sparked annoyance among his team-mates. Smith proposed to Deane in April, when he flew to Ireland instead of returning home with his squad after his team's tournament-ending loss to New Zealand at the World Cup in India, with Smith swiftly having to apologise to his side. On an offbeat note, though, his new wife Deane is the lead vocalist of Irish band Industry. She even tried for the X Factor in 2006 but, heartbreakingly, didn't make the final 12.
