Sport in brief: Blow to Cook's Games bid

Aaron Cook's bid for a place in Great Britain's Olympic taekwondo team has suffered a setback.

The British Olympic Association have rejected the latest evidence presented by Cook's representatives that the world No 1 should have been selected for London 2012. Lutalo Muhammad, the world No 49, was preferred to Cook in the under 80kg class.

Biggest ever Team GB

Seven swimmers were added to Team GB after the second Olympic trial last night in Sheffield, making it at 44 the largest British contingent ever sent to a Games. David Carry became the oldest member of the team at 30 when he qualified in the 400m freestyle, while Siobhan-Marie O'Connor will be the baby at 16 in the 100m breaststroke. Marco Loughran (100m backstroke), Chris Walker-Hebborn (100m & 200m backstroke) and Steph Proud (200m backstroke) also made it through and Grant Turner and Antony James are in the relays.

Dunbar takes British title

Alan Dunbar became only Northern Ireland's third player to win the British amateur title going back to 1885. The Walker Cup player from Rathmore beat Austria's Matthias Schwab on the final green of the 36-hole final at Royal Troon to earn places in next month's Open and next year's Masters and US Open.
