The sporting week ahead (05/09/10)
Today
Pakistan's cricketers return to action (presumably) to do battle with England and their consciences at Twenty20. The rugby season picks up pace with Northampton hosting Leicester while Bath go to Leeds. And expect players to take the aerial route when the Bees (Brentford) take on the Owls (Sheffield Wednesday).
Tomorrow
The Women's Amateur World Boxing Championships begin in Barbados. It's hardly York Hall, Bethnal Green is it?
Tuesday
Fabio Capello hopes to find holes in the Swiss defence so they roll over in the European Championship qualifiers. Scotland have a tricky home tie with Liechtenstein and the Irish face mighty Andorra. It's time for the US Ryder Cup wild cards – let's hope they pick no-hopers too. More News of the World match-fixing claims as John Higgins faces a hearing. What's he got in his pocket?
Wednesday
Today it's Ferrari in the dock as they face an investigation into the team orders they gave at the German Grand Prix. Expect them to leave at high speed.
Thursday
The County Championship shall be settled by today, with Notts tying up the title.
Friday
Uh-oh. Some utterly spurious international T20 event begins in South Africa. All above board, no doubt. No home interest there, which is a relief.
Saturday
Welcome back to the Premier League, where West Ham will be looking to avoid double figures at home to Chelsea. Everton entertain Manchester United while Blackpool could rock their hosts, Newcastle.
