World Darts Championship 2014: Jame Wade cruises into second round after seeing off Jamie Wilson but Paul Nicholson crashes out

James Wade moved into the second round of the PDC World Championship at Alexandra Palace on Sunday with a 3-1 win over Jamie Lewis.

The three-time semi-finalist was rarely troubled as he took the first set 3-1 but Lewis hit back to level things up, taking the second 3-2.

Wade lost his throw in the first game of the next but recovered to take it 3-1 and then eased through the fourth to advance.

Kim Huybrechts put in an impressive performance as he beat Michael Mansell 3-0.

The Belgian hit just one maximum but recorded 16 throws of 140 or more as he won 3-1 3-2 3-2.

He will next face Ian White who was a 3-1 winner over John Michael.

Dave Chisnall overcame some poor fortune on his way to a 3-0 win against Ryan de Vreede.

The 34-year-old saw a number of darts bounce out of the treble bed but still kept his calm to win 3-1 3-0 3-2.

In the afternoon session, Benito van de Pas created an upset on his debut as he knocked out 25th seed Paul Nicholson 3-2.

The Dutchman took the opening set 3-0 but Nicholson hit back to take the second by the same score, including a 116 checkout.

That clearly gave Nicholson confidence and he took the next 3-1 but Van de Pas found his stride to force a decider and a 109 finish gave the 21-year-old a 3-0 win in the fifth and a place in the second round.

"That was awesome," he said. "I started really well, but in the second and the third set I wasn't playing very well so just had to stay in it."

Chisnall is next up for Van de Pas.

Mark Webster will take on Phil Taylor in the next round after beating Ron Meulenkamp 3-1.

The 2008 BDO world champion raced into a 2-0 lead taking the first two sets 3-1 and 3-2 before Meulenkamp hit back with a 3-0 set to make it 2-1.

Both men struggled to find the doubles in the fourth set but Webster eventually ensured his progress on double one.

"I'm up for playing Phil, for me he's still the best there is, but I won't be scared of him," he said. "I'm not trying to rub him up the wrong way or anything like that but I have beaten him before here, not many other people have.

"Every time you play Phil you have to see it as a massive opportunity to go up there and show what you can do and that's exactly how I'll approach it."

Dean Winstanley also progressed with a 3-2 win over Wayne Jones while Kevin Painter was a 3-1 winner over Russian qualifier Boris Koltsov.
