Cullen urged to back up drug comment

The Rugby League has called on the Widnes coach, Paul Cullen, to back up his suggestion that the Terry Newton drug case is "the tip of an iceberg" in the game. Cullen made the comment in a discussion about the mandatory two-year ban imposed on the former Great Britain hooker following his positive test for a prohibited substance.

Cullen said on Sky's Boots'n'all magazine programme that "unfortunately, I think this type of issue is the tip of the iceberg" and that the League should work harder to track down drug cheats. The League has responded by calling on him to name names.

"If he has knowledge of drug use going on, he should give us names," said the RFL communications manager, Craig Spence. "If not, he should retract."
