The Leeds centre Keith Senior has been fined £1,000 for his verbal attack on the referee Richard Silverwood.

The former Great Britain international was found guilty last night of breaching the Rugby League's rules with his criticism of Silverwood after the defeat by Melbourne in the World Club Challenge last month, in which Senior was penalised by Silverwood for dissent, conceding two points.

Afterwards he said the Yorkshire official was "arrogant" and accused him of "always wanting to be the centre of attention". Although he apologised later that night, it was ruled that Senior had a case to answer. The hearing imposed no playing ban and half his fine has been suspended until the end of this season.
