Wales have included three uncapped players – none of them Welsh-born – in their squad for the Four Nations.

Cumbrian-born Peter Lupton has been named after qualifying via his three seasons for Crusaders. The other two – Matt Seamark and Tyson Frizell – are Australians who put their names forward on the strength of Welsh-born fathers.

The Russian team competing in the World Cup qualifiers was at the centre of a mid-air drama on its way from Frankfurt to Moscow. The plane flew back to Germany when a passenger became violent. In addition the visas of the coach, John Stankevitch, and the squad had expired. They were threatened with arrest as illegal immigrants before going on to Moscow.
