Students to parade new signings
With the Premier Division of the Women's National League not starting until next week to allow the England players a well-deserved rest after their Gold medal triumph in France in the World Cup qualifier last weekend, tomorrow's programme centres around the First and Second Divisions.
Two people who were in France last weekend could feature in the Loughborough Students game against Hounslow and Ealing. Laura Lee, née Brown, who married Students men's player-coach Jason during the summer, was in the Irish squad in France and has returned to Loughborough after a spell with Sutton Coldfield. Hounslow's new Dutch coach, Bo Koolen, was also on a watching brief in France.
Relegated Students have had their annual turnover of personnel, although they have been fortunate in picking up a number of players with National League experience, including Maire Arber and Cath Fordham from Chelmsford, Rhian Warriner (Olton), Lucy Fawcett (Trojans), Hannah Linforth (Bradford) and Nicola Joy (Exmouth). These, with the experienced Lee, should offset their losses.
Richard Organ takes over as coach at Woking from Ian Jennings, who is now assistant coach to the national squad. Organ has brought a number of Guildford players to Woking and will also have the South African Jenny Fairlamb, who is working for the International Cricket Council in London, in his squad. Woking entertain Bradford Newitts, who are coached by Jill Atkins, Great Britain's captain in the Atlanta Olympics.
