Don't expect a WWE return for CM Punk anytime soon, as his retirement only looks more entrenched now he has been moved to the 'alumni' section on the WWE website and thanked fans for their "help and support through the years".

The 35-year-old abruptly departed the WWE back in January and bar a few rumours and leaks there has been little news on his future with the company.

But now the WWE has bumped him from its Superstars roster to its list of past wrestlers, suggesting it has put its CM Punk days behind it (although it does also feature Batista, who has returned to the promotion and wrestled as recently as June at the Payback PPV).

The adjustment on the WWE website came with a timely tweet from Punk, who wrote in response to messages from fans: "Nope, thank YOU.Thanks for all the help and support through the years. Health and happiness above all. Don't ever take any sh*t from anybody."

Of course in the world of professional wrestling, you're only retired until you're not.

Punk might be enjoying spending his time relaxing and painting chairs right now, but it's likely the temptation of a return to the ring will become overwhelming at some point, as it has for so many wrestlers who have returned repeatedly in the later stages of their careers.
