Smackdown kicked off to a flying start with a Steel Cage match for the WWE Tag Team Championship between The Dust Brothers and The Usos.

Jimmy and Jey controlled most of the match as the tall structure suited their array of high risk manoeuvres. Goldust was superplexed off the top rope before receiving a supersplash but Stardust was able to latch on to the fast paced momentum to roll up a pin for the victory to retain their title. The victorious duo celebrated in the ring on the back of another exciting match between the two sets of brothers amid their long-term rivalry.

Kane settled the show down with a promo that addressed The Authority’s attack on Randy Orton on Raw. The corporate man said that the roster is either with The Authority or against them so that the talent need to choose wisely going forward or they will meet the fate of “The Viper”. Kane revealed that he will face Dolph Ziggler in the steel cage later on in the night before Cesaro’s music hit. Kane said that if Cesaro wanted to prove himself worthy of The Authority’s attention then he will have to face Ryback next.

Cesaro was able to use his superior technical ability to slow “The Big Guy” down early on in the match with a series of headlocks and grapples. “The Swiss Superman” even went to the top rope and delivered a thunderous elbow drop but it was only good enough for a two count. Ryback finally fought back to deliver the Shell Shocked to pull a win out of nowhere. Kane applauded the recently returned powerhouse before looking on in disappointment at Cesaro as the show rolled on.

R-Truth took on Adam Rose in a singles match that actually ended up being a dance off between the Bunny and Truth. The Bunny and Truth tried to outperform each other with a series of dance moves, which distracted Rose to enable the veteran to roll up a pin for the three count. Rose was furious with Bunny’s interference and punched his companion in the face as the “Exotic Express” looked in in confusion. Bunny’s affiliation with Rose is coming to an end with reports of the confirmed identity of the costumed man hinted to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Christian returned to television to host his segment the “Peep Show” with Dean Ambrose as the special guest. Ambrose said that he has no friends but has enemies around every corner and that even though Wyatt is playing mind games, his own mind is in a very dangerous place to be. The lights cut out for Bray Wyatt to appear sitting in his rocking chair to reply to Ambrose’s statements.

Wyatt said that Ambrose has nothing to fear because he has nothing to lose as he doesn’t have anything to fight for anymore. “The Eater of the Worlds” continued to claim that Ambrose’s safety has gone since the disbandment of The Shield and that he wants to fix him like he fixed Luke Harper and Erick Rowan. Wyatt started to get even more personal so Ambrose ran after him but the lights started flick off and on for Wyatt to disappear every time “The Lunatic Fringe” got close.

Natalya took on Summer Rae in a fight that stemmed out of Nattie being overprotective of her husband Tyson Kidd as she caught Summer talking to him earlier in the night. Kidd was on commentary while the two Divas fought in the ring in a very short but fast paced match. Natalya was about to set up a Sharpshooter but Summer reversed the submission into a pin to earn the victory. Natalya looked on frustrated as Kidd attempted to console his wife following a tough time since the two have started to appear together on the main roster.

As Ziggler made his way into the steel cage for his match against Kane, there was a sudden vignette shown on the big screen of the cryptic soon-to-appear star that is rumoured to be a revamped Luke Harper. Corporate Kane bombarded down to the ring to get his hands on his new rival as the main event of the night got underway.

Kane signalled for a rarity in the form of a Tombstone but Ziggler managed to counter the finisher into a Zig Zag, which was not enough to keep the powerhouse down. Ziggler delivered a drop toe hold on Kane onto an exposed turnbuckle and then proceeded to climb on top of the big man ascend onto the top of the cage. As the Intercontinental Champion made it to the other side of the cage Kane tried in to use the door to stop him from winning. Ziggler was however able to kick the door into the face of Kane and fall to the floor to win the match.

Ziggler has been on a very strong run over the last few weeks following a summer in limbo despite many calls from fans for a stronger push of the charismatic Superstar. The likes of Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, CM Punk and Wade Barrett have all been missing from the card during this year for different reasons. This has enabled Ziggler, Ambrose and Seth Rollins to take on the reins of handling the upper card match ups during the latter part of the year. Survivor Series will be a great opportunity for the break out superstars to further display that are able to handle the main event spot.

Results:

The Dust Brothers DEF The Usos

Ryback DEF Cesaro

R-Truth DEF Adam Rose

Summer Rae DEF Natalya

Doplh Ziggler DEF Kane
