The show kicked off with The Big Show, Mark Henry & The Usos taking on The Dust Brothers, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan in an 8-man tag team match. Goldust and Stardust combined well to give Big Show a double suplex, which then got every member involved in the action.

Show managed to recover from the double team to hit Stardust with the KO punch before Jey climbed the turnbuckle to hit the superslash. A fast-paced match to start Smackdown as a rematch between the WWE Tag-Team Champions and The Dust Brothers is on the cards at Night of Champions.

Bo Dallas took on Justin Gabriel, who returned to the main roster this week following a lengthy regrouping in NXT. Jack Swagger & Zeb Coulter watched on from ringside while Dallas cut a promo during the match. Bo claimed that the fans are destined to be failures but if they worked hard they could be “America’s Sweetheart” like him. Coulter interrupted the motivational speaker by saying that if Bo his America’s Sweetheart then Zeb is Ariana Grande. An unimpressed Dallas then turned his attention to Gabriel with a series of strikes before landing the “Bodog” for the win in just a few minutes. Swagger ran towards the ring after the match but Bo managed to make the escape as their rivalry continues.

Paige took on Summer Rae while AJ Lee was on commentary and Layla was ringside to support her tag-team partner. Paige won the match with AJ’s finisher the Black Widow, which looked to infuriate the former WWE Divas Champion. Layla signalled for an attack on Paige but AJ ran in and hit the Paige Turner to save her rival with her own signature move. Paige looked on distressed as AJ skipped around the ring to further the two’s unusual storyline.

Mark Henry made his way back out to the ring for an arm wrestling contest with Rusev, which was hosted by Michael Cole. Henry initially won the contest with some ease but Lana asked for a rematch with both contesters using their left hand. Henry accepted the challenge and was set to win again but Lana threw powder into the eyes of “The World’s Strongest Man” for Rusev to follow up with an attack. Rusev screamed with anger and stood above Henry as the flag of Russia lowered from the rafters.

The Miz entered the ring with his partner “Damien Mizdow” to cue the music of Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler said that he’s not the only one who has a stunt double and introduced “R-Ziggler” for R-Truth to approach the ramp for a tag-team match. It was Truth who picked up the win with Ziggler’s move the Zig Zag on Sandow. The commentators promoted the rematch for the WWE Intercontinental Championship between Zigger and Miz at Night of Champions.

The main event of the night saw Roman Reigns partner with Chris Jericho to battle Randy Orton & Seth Rollins in a tag-team match. Rollins hit the “Three Amigos” triple suplex to Jericho but Y2J was able to fight back with a dropkick from the second rope to tag in Reigns. Reigns hit a double splash on both Rollins and Orton in the corner before tagging Jericho back in to fight “The Architect” outside the ring. Reigns & Rollins battled in the crowd while Jericho countered Orton’s signature DDT into a roll up pin for the victory. Jericho and Reigns celebrated on the ramp following their retribution from Raw where they were both taken out by The Authority.

Night of Champions is starting to look fresh with new match-ups following a summer of drawn-out rivalries. Jericho vs Orton, Rollins vs Reigns and the triple-threat match between Nikki Bella, Paige and AJ lee are all refreshing angles that have only come about in the last week. Monday’s Raw will further solidify these rivalries to shape up a strong pay-per-view next weekend.

Mark Henry def. Rusev in the International Arm-Wrestling competition
