Golf: Bjorn has final say in play-off
THOMAS BJORN held his nerve to sink a birdie putt at the fourth play-off hole and defeat Sergio Garcia at the Dunlop Phoenix tournament in Tokyo yesterday.
Bjorn set himself up for the title when his superb approach shot on the par-five 18th landed within three feet of the pin.
The pair had finished level on a 14-under-par total of 270, and both parred the first three extra holes before Bjorn's conclusive putt. "This should get me into the Masters," he said. "I went out to do a job and I've done that."
At the European tour qualifying school in San Roque, Spain, Justin Rose twice holed from off the green for a level-par 72. With today's final round to go, the Hampshire 19-year-old is in joint fifth place, behind the overall leader, Niclas Fasth of Sweden.
