The Masters: The golfing world gets set for tournament final

Patrick Reed held off the challenge of Ryder Cup team-mates Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth to claim his first major title in the Masters, as Rory McIlroy suffered more Masters misery.

Reed carded a final round of 71 at Augusta National to finish 15 under par and a shot ahead of Fowler, with 2015 champion Spieth another stroke back after an astonishing challenge faltered at the last.

Spieth had rallied from nine shots behind at the start of the day to claim a share of the lead with his ninth birdie of the day on the 16th, setting up the chance to equal the course record of 63 or even match the major championship mark of 62.

But a terrible drive on the 18th for the second time this week led to a crucial bogey and more Augusta demons, after he squandered a five-shot lead with nine to play in 2016 in defence of his title.

Tyrrell Hatton and Doug GhimAnother early birdie for another Englishman as Tyrrell Hatton gets to five-over on the first. The man he's playing alongside, Doug Ghim, is the only amateur left in the tournament after making the cut meaning that he will receive the Silver Medal this evening, but he'll also receive three pairs of crystal glasses for scoring not one, not two but THREE eagles this week. Ghim could well be a name to look out for in the future.

Chez Reavie and Phil MickelsonThat's more like it Phil! Mickelson birdies the par-five second after a good tee and approach shot and moves to six-under, as Reavie makes par. He then gives his round a major injection of momentum by reeling off back-to-back birdies with a three at three, and that moves 'Big Lefty' to five-under and just one shot off his old rival Tiger Woods, who tees off in 10 minutes' time. Maybe that's a battle that will keep us entertained throughout the early stages of this round?

Chez Reavie and Phil MickelsonI take that back! Mickelson looks like he's in the mood today, as he reels off a third straight birdie at 4 to move to four-over and level with Tiger Woods - who is on the first tee. It's a great start from Phil, and while it is of course too little too late, it does suggest that there's shots to be won out there for the latter pairings he will be battling for the win.

He at least gets a shot back at the sixth with a birdie after a nice tee-off on the par-three, but he's still one shot worse than when he started.
