England again paid the penalty for a dismal defensive performance as they lost 2-1 to Spain in the second of their games in a Four Nations tournament yesterday, writes Brian Tatlock from Madrid. They failed to clear their lines from a long corner in the 14th minute and Pablo Garcia put Spain ahead. Seven minutes late a speculative 50-yard ball from Juan Dinares caught out Phil McGuire and Juan Escarre slipped through for Spain's second. England played their best hockey at the start of the second half and Russell Garcia, after being fouled, reduced the arrears from a second-minute penalty. Earlier, South Africa followed opening suprise defeat of Spain with a 0-0 draw against Holland.
