Six Nations: England in profile

Follow the latest updates live from today’s Six Nations action as the Calcutta Cup takes centre stage at Murrayfield with Scotland taking on England.

Both sides suffered defeats on the opening weekend, with Scotland delivering an impressive performance despite coming out on the wrong side of their 19-12 result in Dublin, while England delivered one of the worst performances of the Eddie Jones era in a 24-17 loss to France.

As a result, the Calcutta Cup carries significantly more pressure this afternoon as neither side can afford a second consecutive loss, given it will almost certainly end their Six Nations title hopes for the year after just two rounds. Add to that the fiery build-up from both teams, with the talk of “war” and “hatred”, and the match is finely poised to be a boisterous and physical affair. Follow the live action below.

12 mins: Scotland 0-3 England

Scotland make a smart break as a Price chip over the line catches Furbank well out of position. Joseph tries to win the race for it, but he palms it into the hands of Price, who can only knock it on. We're coming back for a Scotland penalty though for a high tackle by Itoje on Bradbury, and Hastings kicks to touch about 10m out.

14 mins: Scotland 0-3 England

Brown fluffs the lineout and Underhill is there to sweep up possession, though Ford's low kick still catches the wind and only finds touch on the edge of the 22. This wind is really playing havoc, and you'd say right now it's going to be worth a serious advantage to Scotland this half - and England in the second half.

Scotland win a penalty against Ludlam from the driving maul, and Hastings puts it in the corner...

16 mins: Scotland 0-3 England

England do an excellent job this time of wrapping up the ball carrier, and even though Johnson comes from a mile out to try and barge Underhill and Curry off the ball, it comes to no avail. England win the put-in.

18 mins: Scotland 0-3 England

The scrum never comes as after three resets, Scotland are pinged for pre-engaging. Ford kicks to touch about 10 metres outside the English 22.

20 mins: Scotland 0-3 England

Furbank is lucky not to get pinged for a tackle on Maitland in the air, but Heinz's subsequent clearing kick only finds Kinghorn, who produces a mazy run in return. He's eventually stopped by Vunipola after beating a number of players, and Curry swoops in to make the turnover and release the pressure.

24 mins: Scotland 0-3 England

A collective giggle goes up around Murrayfield as Heinz puts up a box-kick that ends up going backwards, such is the power of the wind. Scotland then feel the full effect of it as Hogg's effort runs all the way into the try zone from his own 22. Luckily, it doesn't role dead and Ford touches it down for a 22.

26 mins: Scotland 0-3 England

Daly breaks away down the left wing after a fantastic turnover from Underhill off the drop-out. England come right and Farrell kicks in behind, and when Hogg fields it Furbank wraps him up and Ludlam and Curry win the penalty. Farrell will go for goal.

Farrell shanks another as the wind catches it and takes it directly away from the posts. That's six point missed now...

29 mins: Hogg takes a 22m drop-out following the penalty - and you know the story. The wind catches it, it rolls all the way down tot he other end of the field, and England have their own 22. It's all a bit messy in these conditions.
