Follow the latest updates live from the Eifel Grand Prix at the Nurburgring where Valtteri Bottas starts from pole position ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

The Nurburgring’s return to the Formula One calendar for the first time in seven years has not been short on drama, with Friday’s running completely washed out and Racing Point’s Lance Stroll ruled out with illness, meaning another call-up for Nico Hulkenberg in his place.

Qualifying also produced a surprise as Bottas left his rivals in his dust, producing a lap nearly 0.4s faster than championship leader Hamilton, who just squeezed onto the front row ahead of Red Bull’s Verstappen. There was also welcome relief for Ferrari with Charles Leclerc taking fourth ahead of the second Red Bull of Alex Albon, ahead of the two Renaults, but Sebastian Vettel starts outside of the top 10 once again after qualifying 11th. Follow live updates below.

Now Perez pits, perhaps realising that they would not only be sitting ducks to Ricciardo but also Sainz and Leclerc right behind.

Hamilton stops and is well-clear of Verstappen, who also stops. Ricciardo also comes in from third and Perez chooses not to, meaning Perez is up to third with track position, albeit on older tyres than the fourth-placed Ricciardo on new softs.

The McLaren has given up! Norris grinds to a halt on the outside of Turn Six, with the power unit finally giving up and ruling him out of sixth place. Is that going to be a VSC?

LAP 43

Vettel does pit at the end of the lap and puts on a new set of soft tyres. He could go for fastest lap, but he’s down to 15th and that won’t even get him an extra point if he were to nab it. It’s another bleak day for the four-time world champion.

Vettel is a bit of a sitting duck now on the hards, as Gasly sweeps past through the first complex to take eighth. Vettel reports that he doesn’t have any fronts left, and he has Hulkenberg right behind too. Hulk makes light work of Vettel as the superior Mercedes engine powers the Racing Point past and into ninth.

Leclerc very nearly transforms Turn One into a Ferrari scrapheap as he comes from miles back to dive inside Vettel and just make the corner without running into his teammate.

LAP 39

Leclerc's third stint gets off to a good start as he dives beneath Kimi to take eighth, and that puts him onto the back of his Ferrari teammate. All things considered, this is a decent day for the Italian team.

Leclerc comes in for his second stop after that battle, and puts on the mediums to go to the end of the race. It puts him into a Ferrari-powered battle, with Giovinazzi leading Vettel, Raikkonen and Leclerc, along with Gasly.
