Styrian Grand Prix LIVE: Latest F1 updates and reaction as Lewis Hamilton wins first race of the seasosn
Re-live the latest updates from the Red Bull Ring where defneding champion Hamilton cruised to victory ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen
Follow the latest updates live from the Styrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring as Lewis Hamilton starts from pole position in a bid to win his first race of the 2020 F1 season.
The reigning world champion produced an incredible lap in qualifying to take pole position by a mammoth 1.2s, but he’s joined on the front row by Max Verstappen in a Red Bull that has a lot of making up to do after last weekend’s double-retirement for the home team. The top order is shaken up somewhat though by the rain-sodden qualifying session, meaning Carlos Sainz starts in third in the McLaren with world championship leader Valtteri Bottas only able to qualify in fourth.
There have been a fair few grid penalties applied, with Lando Norris dropping from sixth to ninth and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc seeing an already-disappointing 11th worsen to 14th after he was found to have blocked Daniil Kvyat in qualifying, with Antonio Giovinazzi also dropping to thee back of the grid after a gearbox change on his Alfa Romeo. Lights out is scheduled for 2:10pm, and you can follow lap-by-lap updates live below.

4. Albon +12.9s
5. Sainz +14.8s

7. Ricciardo +16.5s

9. Stroll +18.1s
10. Norris +18.6s
Lap 12: There are two brilliant team battles unfolding, with Renault's Ocon and Ricciardo running line astern in sixth and seventh, and the two Haas drivers also locked together in 14th and 15th. I say the Haas battle is fascinating because Grosjean, having started from the pit lane, is already up to 14th and ahead of teammate Magnussen, which is mighty impressive even taking into account the safety car period.
Lap 13: Sebastian Vettel
"I was fighting with two other cars and I was already fighting into Turn 3, and then I was very surprised because I already had the inside line and didn't expect Charles to try and overtake. I was taking it easy and conservative and I was trying to place my car for the next corner, but realised there was quite a lot of damage.
"I don't think there was space. Obviously it is a shame, it was a bonus to come back to this track and the condition are very much the same, but we will not see if we've made improvements."
Lap 15: Norris is getting duffed up by the Racing Points this afternoon, with Perez forcing his way down the inside into Turn 3 to get payback for the late overtake last weekend. However, rather than for third, this week that's for 10th.
Lap 17: Here comes Ricciardo! He goes for the outside line on teammate Ocon, but Ocon holds his line through Turn 4 and holds on to sixth this time. Behind, Stroll gets past Gaslt to take eighth while Perez is very close behind, and the Racing Points are coming to the fore nicely. Renault should be worried here.
Lap 18: Perez follows suit and passes Gasly into Turn 4 to take ninth. Meanwhile, the fighting between Ocon and Ricciardo continues, which is allowing Sainz to pull away.
Lap 19: This time Ricciardo makes no mistake and sweeps past his Renault teammate with help of DRS before Turn 4. That's crucial not just for the Australian but for the team as Ricciardo is on the faster medium tyres, with Ocon starting off on the hard tyres.
Lap 20 standings
1. Hamilton
2. Verstappen +4.8s
3. Bottas +7.4s
4. Albon +23.8s
5. Sainz +27.0s
6. Ricciardo +29.3s
7. Ocon +30.2s
8. Stroll +31.7s
9. Perez +33.5s
10. Gasly +36.0s
Lap 21: Norris is the next to get by Gasly, with the Alpha Tauri a sitting duck on the straights and allowing the McLaren past on the run to Turn 4. That puts the young Briton into the top 10.
Lap 22: Charles Leclerc
"I apologised, obviously excuses are not enough in times like this and I am just disappointed in myself. I've done a very bad job today, I've let the team down. I can only be sorry and I will learn from this, and hopefully I'll come back stronger. I put all the work from the team in the bin."
