Lewis Hamilton has the chance to claw some ground back on Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg in the battle for the 2016 Formula 1 championship as he starts the US Grand Prix from pole position at the Circuit of the Americas. Follow the latest here.

The drivers are all ready here in Austin, they're about to head out on their warm-up lap in front of a crowd packed with fans and celebrities alike. 

How do we see this one going? Will Rosberg continue his second half of the season domination or can Hamilton build on his pole position yesterday?

Lap 1: Rosberg has dropped down to third place while Hamilton keeps hold of first! Ricciardo is in second and the championship leader can't get passed him!

Lap 14: Here comes Verstappen! You can bring in whatever rule you like, but you can't stop the kid from overtaking and he dives underneath Raikkonen to move up to fourth at the end of the back straight.

Lap 19: We've got a battle for third on our hands here, as Verstappen has caught Rosberg and you can guarantee he's going to have a run at him if he gets the chance. The Dutch teenager is in DRS range, but decides against having a go first time about.

Lap 20: Verstappen gets a reminder to make sure the tyres last until the end of the stint, and he sends back the rather comical "I'm not here to finish fourth!" Great stuff once again from Verstappen.

Lap 21: Button's up into the points as Button gets by Kvyat at the end of the back straight, although he has to roll off the brakes to get the move done into turn 12 as the Toro Rosso leaves it as late as possible. That puts Button into 10th, with Perez now all over the back of Kvyat.

Lap 22: Kvyat finally pits for the first time and serves his 10-second penalty, with the Toro Rosso boys waiting an age before they can go to work. To compound matters, he then can't find first gear to pull away, and loses a further three seconds to take him well out of contention for the points.

Lap 23: With all the action taking place from third and beyond, what's going on up front? Hamilton currently leads by seven seconds and is already into the backmarkers of Ocon and Bottas. Ricciardo is still second, one second ahead of Rosberg who in turn now has a 3.3 second gap to Verstappen after the teenager headed his engineers advice and backed off to save his tyres.

Lap 24: Raikkonen currently resembles a sitting duck, with Vettel closing the gap between the two rapidly. The Finn saves his teammate the hassle of making the pass as he pits for a fresh set of super softs, promoting Vettel up to fifth.
