Tom Brady delivers brutal verdict on Patrick Mahomes after crushing Super Bowl loss

The Chiefs failed in their attempt to win a third successive Super Bowl after defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, with Brady sharing the harsh reality for Mahomes

Tom Brady provided a brutal assessment on what Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will be dealing with after their crushing defeat in Super Bowl LIX to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFL legend, who won the Super Bowl seven times from 10 games, has had his record compared with Mahomes during discussions over who will eventually be considered the greatest quarterback in the sport’s history.

And in the build-up to the game in New Orleans, the Fox commentator highlighted the risk for Mahomes should he lose: “If you don't win, you're 3-2 in Super Bowls, it's not a great feeling and there is a lot of pressure.”

The Eagles dominated on Sunday night from the first quarter, running out 40-22 winners to deliver a major setback to the Chiefs, with Brady warning Mahomes that he may never get over the loss.

“I think about, unfortunately, the three losses more than the seven wins, it hurts to lose this game,” Brady said when asked during the Fox broadcast how this loss would impact Mahomes and his legacy. “That loss to the Giants was 17 years ago, I still haven't lived it down as you care so deeply, I know the Chiefs do as well, Patrick too.

“The reality of a loss in this game is, you don't ever get over it, you go in with such high expectations as you won Super Bowls before, but you have a 34-point deficit with six minutes and 50 seconds left, I feel like you have to go out there in those last six minutes and just as you expect you would.

“The challenging thing in the NFL and three-peating, every year you start at the bottom, they give you a banner and a ring, then you start at the bottom. They obviously have a great dynasty, they're an incredible organisation, they have to rebuild as quickly as they can.

“But we've seen tonight, their inability to pass protect, it's similar to when we beat them with Tampa in 2020, they couldn't pass protect then either, it's back to the drawing board, there are no two ways about it. It's the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows when you're trying to win and do something historic in the NFL.

“I remember when I lost to the Giants in 2007, I got on the bus after the game, it was just devastating, I couldn't speak for the rest of the night. I just always remember waking up, that was a nightmare, that game didn't happen? It's a difficult feeling to have, but if there's anybody who can rebound it's Patrick Mahomes.”

Mahomes fought until the end, despite throwing two costly interceptions, eventually producing a 50-yard touchdown to Xavier Worthy deep in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 40-22, despite ultimately falling short in his bid to pull off a rare ‘three-peat’.

“Credit to the Eagles,” Mahomes said afterwards. “They played better than us from start to finish. The turnovers hurt, they capitalised, they scored from one and scored immediately after another, that's 14 points I kind of gave to them, it's hard to come back from that. I didn't play to my standard and I have to be better next time."
