Seb Coe lines up new job – but will he bail on Team GB?

Sebastian Coe is set to become the next chairman of the British Olympic Association but could quit the job just a year before the next Games. After overseeing the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Lord Coe is favourite to succeed Lord Moynihan who is stepping down next month.

"I have been asked and I'm happy for my name to go forward. I was asked formally and on this day of all days why wouldn't you want to help?" he said yesterday after the parade of Olympic and Paralympic athletes in central London.

But Lord Coe has stated his desire to stand for president of the IAAF athletics federation when its head, Lamine Diack, steps down in 2015.

That would mean that Lord Coe would leave on his role at the BOA just a year before TeamGB attempts to emulate its record medal haul of London at the Rio Games in 2016.

Lord Coe is likely to face opposition for the IAAF post from Ukrainian Sergey Bubka, who won a pole vault gold medal at Seoul in 1988. Both are now vice-presidents of IAAF.
