When is it?

The 4x400m men’s relay final will be held on Saturday 20 August 2016.

What time will it be on?

The race will start at around 2.35am Sunday 21 August BST (10.35pm local time in Rio).

Where can I watch it live?

BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four, the BBC red button and the BBC Sport website will have live coverage of all events at Rio 2016.

Who are the contenders?

The Bahamas teams over the last few Olympic Games have crept up on the dominant US, obtaining silver in Beijing and gold in 2012 – only the third time an American team have been beaten in this event.

Expect Bahamas mainstays Chris Brown and Michael Mathieu to give the US a fair fight once again.

Remember when…

The qualifying rounds at London 2012, normally relatively uneventful, were punctuated by South African competitor Ofentse Mogawane being tripped up and injured, before in the second heat the US’s Manteo Mitchell broke his left fibula.

Mitchell said “it felt like somebody literally just snapped my leg in half. I felt it break.”

What’s the world record?

2:54.29 – United States, 22 August 1993
