John Inverdale apologises for latest gaffe after making x-rated comment during Cheltenham Festival coverage
Broadcaster inadvertently referred to 'rose-c*****' glasses
John Inverdale was forced to apologise yet again for his on-air comments today.
The broadcaster, who caused a storm in 2013 for referring disparagingly to Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli's looks, inadvertently swore during Radio Five Live's coverage of the Cheltenham Festival.
The 57-year-old blurted out the swear word during a discussion with John Francome and Lizzie Kelly as they discussed the former's early days in racing.
Francome said: "You get wet, you're mucking out, and it's hard work... But through all of that it's a way of life that most of them wouldn't swap, a lot of people go off and do other things and then come back to it."
To which Inverdale replied: "This is looking at it through rose-c*****... rose-tinted glasses from the past... [I] apologise there for a slip of the tongue, but Lizzie your love of the sport just shines through."
In 2013 Inverdale said of French tennis player Bartoli that she was "never going to be a looker".
He revealed the following day that he had sent Bartoli a letter to apologise if he had caused her any offence.
