Joyeuse set for next step in Frankel family tradition

Frankel's half-sister Joyeuse has her first run since Royal Ascot in the Listed Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes at Salisbury.

Joyeuse, successful on her debut in May, finished third in a strong-looking Albany Stakes at the royal meeting, with the winner Kiyoshi placed third in the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday and the runner-up Sandiva taking the Group Three Prix du Calvados at Deauville last month. The sixth, Lucky Kristale, has since been an emphatic winner of two Group Two contests, the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket's July Meeting and the Lowther Stakes at York a fortnight ago.

The Ascot form alone, then, marks out Joyeuse as superior to her year older full-brother Morpheus, the summit of whose achievement in seven starts has been three minor wins and a handicap rating of 89, while giving encouragement that her ability may be more in line with her Group-winning half-brothers Noble Mission and Bullet Train, at the least.

The Dick Poole Stakes was landed in 2008 by the subsequent Cheveley Park Stakes winner Serious Attitude, while last year Winning Express went on to finish second in the Newmarket Group One. Joyeuse holds an entry in that event and Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to her owner, Khalid Abdullah, said: "She has had some time off since Ascot and has strengthened up and developed well. As she hasn't had a run for a while she might be a little rusty but everyone seems pleased with her at home."

With Abdullah's newly appointed jockey James Doyle suspended, Tom Queally maintains his association with the Lady Cecil-trained juvenile. Doyle's ban also meant he was absent from Lingfield, when another Abdullah two-year-old, Radiator, won a maiden contest by 15 lengths. The Fillies' Mile entry is as short as 16-1 with Coral for the 1,000 Guineas.
