Alex Goode has dismissed reports linking him with a surprise move to Premiership side Worcester Warriors after a false article surfaced over the weekend suggesting that the England full-back is to leave Saracens at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old featured for Saracens on Saturday in the 62-14 victory over Northampton Saints that has given the reigning European Champions Cup holders a chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals, though they will have to wait for Sunday’s remaining matches before knowing their last-eight fate.

But a surprise article suddenly appeared on the BBC on Saturday, according to one photograph that appeared on Twitter, which caught the eye of former England fly-half Andy Goode, who tweeted the image to his namesake asking if the rumour was true.

Goode responded on Sunday morning to confirm that it was false, with the article soon removed from the BBC website.

The Saracens full-back, who has been with the club since making his breakthrough in 2008, said: “The rumour mill is worse than football. I’m not moving bud.”

Former Leicester Tigers, Wasps and Saracens fly-half good had initially spotted the story on Saturday evening, not long after Saracens’ encounter with Northampton at Allianz Park has finished.

Goode made his 250th appearance for Saracens on Saturday and was among their seven different try scorers as they thrashed the Saints for the third time this season, having already put more than 50 points past them in their Premiership opener at Twickenham and the first European meeting between the two sides at Franklin’s Gardens.

Goode continues to be left out of the England squad though, with head coach Eddie Jones deciding to stick with Mike Brown and Anthony Watson as his full-back options in the Six Nations squad that he announced this week.
