Heineken round-up: Wasted chances and the referee upset Cockerill

Richard Cockerill, Leicester's head coach, expressed frustration at his team's failure to secure a bonus point in their 28-12 win at Aironi in the Heineken Cup on Saturday.

"We had enough opportunities to score more," said Cockerill, whose side recorded two tries in the first period of the Pool Four match from Tom Croft and Alesana Tuilagi, before Niall Morris touched down late on. "We probably should have taken more advantage of that first half-hour."

Cockerill also criticised the official, Neil Paterson. "The breakdown wasn't particularly well refereed," Cockerill said. "They just tackled and lay at the back of the breakdown, we couldn't get any ball to play."

There was also displeasure at the quality of refereeing at Thomond Park, where Munster beat Northampton 23-21 in an enthralling Pool One match.

Ronan O'Gara's injury-time drop goal secured the win for Munster and Northampton's coach, Jim Mallinder, admitted: "The feeling is one of frustration.

"The game hinged on crucial refereeing decisions. The referee got quite a lot wrong. Sometimes you don't always get the rub of the green and I think we will look back and probably say we did not get it."
