England vs South Africa: Anthony Watson vs Bryan Habana head-to-head
Who prevailed in the battle of the wings
Who landed the first big blow?
Neither man landed anything of substance. Watson saw less ball in the first half than did possession-starved Semesa Rokoduguni against New Zealand a week earlier, nor did Habana exercise any undue influence.
Who was best in defence?
Neither was utterly dependable. Watson knocked on a high ball; Habana (right) was judged to have stepped into touch catching Owen Farrell’s cross-kick, and from the lineout England worked their first try.
Does Habana retain his old threat?
Not on this evidence. But the world’s fourth highest scorer of Test tries was not given the merest sniff of the line.
Watson to stay?
Like Rokodugini, he merits another go. Both will feel their brief England careers have so far passed them by.
