Rugby World Cup 2019 in numbers

The Rugby World Cup continues on Wednesday with the Pool D clash between Fiji and Uruguay in what will prove a special occasion at the Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium.

After threatening to upset Australia in their opening encounter, Fiji will go into the clash as favourites for victory to get their campaign up and running, having seen a second-half flurry of tries by the Wallabies preventing them from taking a bonus point out of their Sapporo clash.

Uruguay meanwhile will be playing their first match in Japan having had a bye in round one, though they face an uphill task as the weakest side in the pool.

However, the story could prove more about the location than the result. Kamaishi was decimated by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, with more than 1,000 people killed by the ensuing tsunami that struck the area.

A decision was taken to build the Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium on the site of schools that were destroyed by the tsunami, and with this being one of two matches to take place there, it will be a moment to savour for the local community.

Here’s everything you need to know about the match.

Prediction

Fiji 45-7 Uruguay: Even though Fiji retain just three of their players from the win over Australia, they are three of their very best in Semi Radradra, Leone Nakarawa and captain Dominiko Waqaniburotu. They should have enough fire-power to see off the South American minnows.
