Wales centre Jamie Roberts has warned his team to beware the “angry man” on Saturday after Johnny Sexton was declared fit to play in a game which will have massive ramifications for the outcome of this year’s Six Nations.

The fly-half limped out of Ireland’s 19-9 win over England two weekends ago with a hamstring injury but the Irish talisman is back for the trip to the Millennium Stadium.

The two play club rugby together in Paris with Racing Métro and Roberts said yesterday with a knowing smile: “He is an angry man. The first time I played with him was on the Lions tour against the Waratahs and he was shouting his head off at me and it took me by surprise a bit.

“He barks orders, he knows what he wants from his team. We are good mates now in Paris but he is a guy who demands high standards. There is nothing wrong with that.”

Roberts and Sexton are coffee buddies in the French capital. But in the build-up to Saturday’s game, they have severed all ties.

“I won’t speak to him this week,” said Roberts. “But it will be great to play against him. He has been exposed to a different environment, different coaches playing in that league against top-quality players and has improved immensely over the last two or three years.”

Roberts remains confident that Wales, despite an opening tournament defeat to England, can end Ireland’s 10-match unbeaten streak and be crowned Six Nations champions. “It is who blinks first,” he said, “but it is also who dares wins as well.”
