HOPES that next year's French Grand Prix would be saved by amendments to the new law on tobacco advertising were stalled by the Senate yesterday. Two former ministers, Michel Charasse, and Michel Poniatowski, had asked for an exception to be made for motor racing's tobacco sponsors. However, an all-party committee refused to table the amendments.
