Sports Listings: Sunday / Cyclo-cross: National Trophy series, Wolverhampton
Steve Douce, the Reigate professional, who won the first National Trophy race last month, is no stranger to Aldersley Stadium, Wolverhampton, Sunday's setting for the second in the four-race series. Last January Douce narrowly won the National Championship there from David Baker, the mountain bike professional. Douce starts as favourite in the seniors' category on a course that combines tricky descents, a stream crossing and a grandstand finish on the cycle track. Baker lies ninth in the seniors' category. Behind Douce, however, is the amateur, Roger Hammond, the former world junior champion who beat Douce at Sutton Park two weeks ago in the BC-CA International.
How to get there: Aldersley Stadium is 1 1/2 miles north-west of Wolverhampton town centre and is signposted from A449 Wolverhampton to Stafford road, via Oxley Moor Road, and from A41 through Tettenhall. Race programme: Juveniles 11am; juniors noon, followed by veterans and women; under-12s 1pm; Senior National Trophy 2pm.
