Andy Murray secured a famous Davis Cup victory for Great Britain as he saw off the challenge of John Isner to set-up a quarter-final showdown with France, but it was his unfortunate slip of the tongue that stitched up his team-mate that was the biggest talking point on Sunday night.

Murray had just battled to a straight sets win over Isner when he appeared alongside James Ward, his brother Jamie Murray and Dominic Inglot for an interview with Eurosport presenter and former British tennis star Annabel Croft.

But he stitched up Inglot no end when he proclaimed: “Dom's got a little girlfriend on the go!”

Murray quickly burst into laughter, obviously making fun of an inside joke, but Inglot immediately appeared sheepish and soon explained that Murray had landed him in it as he’s “actually got a girlfriend whose going to be watching this at home”.

Watch the video below...

Murray went over continue the joke with Inglot while his brother and Ward mixed fits of laughter with bemused stares of awkwardness, and Croft quickly wrapped up the interview with the foursome, who by now were resembling a group of schoolboys in the playground as they laughed their way off court.

The Daily Mail claims that the girl in question was actually a passionate fan that the British team had noted for her admiration for Inglot, and he soon took to Twitter to clear up any confusion over the matter.

“Just to clarify, there is no girl on the side. The joke interview was just a joke. All banter with @andy_murray”
