ATP World Tour Finals 2014: Bryan brothers serve up fourth doubles title

It has been another remarkable year for the twins, who claimed the 100th title of their careers when they won the US Open

At the age of 36, Bob and Mike Bryan are showing no signs of slowing down. The American twins won the doubles competition at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the fourth time, at the O2 Arena in London last night, beating Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo 6-7, 6-2, 10-7 in the final, to make this the fourth season in which they have finished the year with 10 or more titles.

Although this was the 103rd title they have won together, the Bryans have not always performed at their best in the year-end championships, which they last won in 2009.

“Sometimes we’ve come in here feeling like we’re resting on our laurels a little bit, happy with the way the season has gone, and haven’t put a ton of focus on winning this,” Mike said. “This year I thought we did. We did play a little looser. We freed up our games a little bit and did go for our shots.”

It has been another remarkable year for the twins, who claimed the 100th title of their careers when they won the US Open. That victory meant they have now won at least one Grand Slam title every season for the last 10 years. By winning in Shanghai last month they also became the first doubles pair to win all nine Masters Series titles.

“Looking back at the year, we’re very proud of the way it went,” Mike said. “If we had to pick one highlight during this great season, it would probably have to be the US Open. It was just a milestone we were shooting for. One of our big goals coming into the year was to try to hit 100 titles. We did it, luckily, at our home Grand Slam.”
