Dan Evans beats Kyle Edmund in Battle of the Brits final
Cam Norrie overcame James Ward 6-3 7-5 in third-place play-off after Andy Murray’s withdrawal
Dan Evans defeated Kyle Edmund in the final of the Battle of the Brits exhibition tournament on Sunday.
The 30-year-old won 6-3 6-2 in the behind-closed-doors event played at the National Tennis Centre in west London.
Evans had beaten former world No1 Andy Murray in Saturday’s semi-final.
Murray, who was playing his first event since November, withdrew from his third-place play-off match against Cam Norrie after playing four matches in five days.
“I thought I started the match well and then like in all of my matches this week, my levels dropped off a bit after that,” Murray said after his defeat by Evans.
“I’ve just not been able to sustain a high level for long enough. My game is there, I just need more time to practise and prepare, and I’ll get there.”
Murray’s brother Jamie organised the charity tournament to help provide some competitive action while players await the resumption of the season, which was closed down in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
