Johanna Konta suffered a shock straight-sets defeat at the hands of world No 219 Fanny Stollar in the second round of the Volvo Car Open in Charleston.

Konta, the sixth seed, received a bye in the first round but could only win seven games as she crashed to a 6-3 6-4 loss to the 19-year-old Hungarian, who secured her fourth successive victory on the clay in South Carolina.

Stollar had to play two qualifying matches before seeing off fellow qualifier Francesca Di Lorenzo in the first round and she maintained that good form against the world number 22 to progress into the last 16, where she will take on Kiki Bertens.

Konta secured her only two breaks of the match to briefly lead 3-2 but Stollar hit back to win four successive games to clinch the opening set in 35 minutes.

A solitary break of serve in the ninth game of the second set was enough for Stollar to secure victory and avenge her straight-sets defeat to Konta in the Fed Cup in February.
