Three years after becoming the first British man for 77 years to win the Wimbledon singles title, Andy Murray will have another shot at home glory here on Sunday. A crushing 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Tomas Berdych – his fifth straight-sets victory in his six matches so far at the tournament - sent the 29-year-old Scot into a showdown with Milos Raonic, who is the first Canadian man ever to reach a Grand Slam final.

It will be Murray’s third successive appearance in a Grand Slam final following his defeats to Novak Djokovic at this year’s Australian and French Opens. For once Murray will be the favourite. In all 10 of his previous Grand Slam finals – eight of which he has lost – the Scot has faced higher-ranked opponents. Indeed, this will be his first final against an opponent other than Djokovic or Roger Federer.

Raonic, who is the world No 7, earned his place in the final with a 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Federer, who lost in the semi-finals here for the first time.

It will be Murray’s third Wimbledon final – he lost to Federer in 2012 and beat Djokovic in 2013 – and one that the 29-year-old will relish. “The older you get you never know how many more chances you will have to play in Grand Slam finals so you want to make the best of any opportunity,” he said.

Cracking stuff from the Scot. The pair exchange some crosscourt forehands from each other's respective baselines before Raonic mixes it up and opts to play the ball down the line. Murray rushes to meet it and sends it back with a lovely crosscourt stroke that he's been impressing with all game long. A forced error from both parties takes it to 30-15 but the Canadian gets his net play right on the next point as Murray looks for that crosscourt shot again. Raonic sticks out a long arm and he slaps the ball down into the service box, way out of reach from Murray. He follows this up with more-or-less the same shot and the game is his.

He claws back a point with an ace before Raonic moves to break point with a fierce forehand return that lands ahead of Murray within the Scot's service box. It bounces accelerates on the bounce and fizzes past the Scot. Annoyingly for the Canadian, he lets two break points slide as he sends two back-to-back forehands into the net. Tense times for Murray. A let off maybe? Deuce.

What a come back from Murray. With Raonic bearing down on him at the net, he slots the ball past his opponent with a lovely forehand stroke down the line. At Murray's advantage, the Canadian appears to crumble having led by two break points at one stage and he fires a forehand stroke from out wide on the right into the net. A let off Murray but he showed real resilience and aggression to hold his serve.

Two big serves, two big points for Raonic with Murray struggling to return. The Canadian asserts his control of the game with an impressive ace down the T and that's 40-0. He's caught back-tracking on the next point though as Murray fires a forehand to his opponent's feet. Milos attempts to return it with a half-volley but he can't clear the net. 40-15. A crosscourt backhand stroke from Murray on the left falls wide and that's the game for Milos.

Murray has been dealing with Raonic's net game all match long as he smashes a backhand stroke into his opponent. Raonic can't hold strong and the ball sprays out wide to his right. A double fault from Murray (his second of the game) takes it to 15-15 before Raonic concedes a forced error on his forehand. The Scot makes up for his earlier serving misdemeanor with a fierce ace down the T and Milos proceeds to hand him the next point, and the game, as he sends home a winning forehand stroke down the line.

Interesting stat here: Raonic has never won a break point at any one of his previous finals. He's only had one opportunity in this game so far but he capitulated, allowing Murray to hold onto his serve.

Two forced errors from both players and it's 15-15. Raonic grabs the next point with a commanding forehand stroke down the line but completely miss-hits the next to make it 30-30. Murray is forced into a corner ,moments later and tries to claw his way out with two looping lobs that land towards the back of the court. The Canadian smashes the first one with an overhead volley but lets the second land before striking at it on his forehand. Murray still gets to it but Raonic is back at the net and lands a strong volley for the well-contested point. An ace follows and that's the game.
