A week after winning the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was turned away from the Royal Box at Wimbledon after falling foul of the dress code.

Hamilton had posted a photograph of his invitation on Instagram saying he was “honoured” to have been invited to the match between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

However his spokesman later said there had been an “unfortunate misunderstanding”, leaving the F1 driver “very disappointed to have missed the men’s final”.

A Wimbledon spokesman said the requirements would have been on the invitation and a jacket and tie would have been offered.

“They’re obviously not of a fashion that a stylist probably thought was right for Lewis – that is our surmising,” he said.
