Apple held its WWDC event on Monday, revealing updates for every one of its platforms.

As well as new versions of the operating systems for its iPhone, iPad, Macs, Apple Watch and TVs, the company also revealed major new changes including the introduction of entirely new chips for its Macs.

It is the 31st time that Apple has held the event. But it is the first ever time that it has been entirely virtual, conducted only through the internet.

You can watch a replay of the live stream above and read The Independent's full coverage below.

Please allow a moment for the live blog to load.

Apple has launched the live stream on its website (the official YouTube one is still counting down). All that it's currently showing is the world slowing spinning around. If you look closely, you'll see those aren't lights. It's hundreds, maybe thousands, of tiny Memojis.

The Memoji on the horizon are actually floating. Which suggests that it might be getting dynamically loaded? Do those Memoji represent live viewers, or something? Who knows?

Whatever it is, it's incredible soothing. You can get the stream on Apple's site, here

T-minus 5 minutes

The song playing over the soothing space video is 'C Pad' by 'Drone Pads', according to Shazam, which of course is owned by Apple now. That links out to this video.

Which is similar, but not exactly the same. That suggests it's something that's been specifically created for this video, to me.

(Numerous people have suggested that Apple might be able to make this WWDC keynote a little more like a TV show, especially given that it makes those now. Is this segment, with its specially made music, an early indication that that's the case?)

And we're off!

The heads were definitely floating. They're on computers now.

The animation of the world has now zoomed right into Apple HQ in California. Steve Jobs is on stage at the Steve Jobs Theater.

The theatre is empty and this looks very much pre-recorded.

He starts by addressing the issue of racism, "especially in our black and brown communities", following the death of George Floyd.
