How to take part in Google's developer conference from anywhere in the world

After the 2011 edition of Google’s coveted developer conference, Google I/O, sold out in a record 59 minutes, Google decided it was time to broaden its horizons and bring the conference to as many developers as possible around the world.

To do this, Google will be hosting I/O Extended events around the globe and launching I/O Live, an online portal where developers can watch the conference from the comfort of their own home (or from behind their computer desk while they should be working) or from anywhere there is a reliable internet connection.

Google I/O is the company's largest developer event of the year. The intensive two-day event is held in San Fransisco, USA and focuses on development for Android, Google Chrome, Google APIs, GWT, App Engine, and open web technologies.

"I/O Live will bring all of the excitement at Moscone Center to our online website," said Google in a blog post announcing the launch of the site, "where the keynotes, sessions and Developer Sandbox will come to life for audiences all over the world."

Google I/O Live will be hosting livestream video feeds from the two main session rooms on both days of the conference. The feeds will include keynotes plus Android and Chrome developer sessions.

"We’ll also aim to post HD video recordings from sessions that are not livestreamed within 24 hours," added Google.

The livestreamed sessions and additional videos will be captioned and translated into all languages that are supported by Google Translate to make the sessions even more accessible to developers in non-English speaking countries.
