Apple has accidentally revealed its own phone on Twitter.

The company tweeted out a video of the new iPhone 7, showing off its waterproof features, before it had been announced on stage.

The video showed the design of the phone, including its rich black glossy look. It also showed the phone wet – which seemed to suggest that the phone will be entirely resistant to water.

Apple has been sending out secret tweets throughout the lead up to the new iPhone. But this didn't stay secret enough – though it doesn't appear on Apple's Twitter page, it was visible to anyone on with the link.

5 things we learned from Apple event

The post read "The new water-resistant iPhone 7". It then provided a link to an Apple site that wasn't yet live.

It was sent out at 6.01pm – apparently wrongly scheduled to go out at the same time the event began.
